REFERENDUM - 9PM TONIGHT UNTIL 12PM SATURDAY
-----------------------------------
Yesterday the HUSJCR issued a statement outlining our reasons for not supporting the interruption of David Willetts’ speech and occupation of Lady Mitchell Hall by members of Cambridge Defends Education (CDE). This stance was voted on by the Executive Committee of the HUSJCR, which put us in line with CUSU’s response to the events.
Since then, students both for and against the actions of CDE have been in touch, and it has been decided that ahead of the Extra-ordinary CUSU Council being held at 3pm on Saturday, it is necessary to accurately gauge the feeling of the HUSJCR membership. As such, we have decided to hold an Extra-ordinary HUS Open Meeting tonight, at 7.30pm in the Griffin. The agenda is attached, including the motion being put forward by the HUSJCR. The motion is proposed by a number of members of the Executive, on the grounds that it was we who voted to support CUSU’s statement on the protest. We hope that turnout at the meeting will be good enough to give each side a fair, democratic platform via which to express their opinion. If you are interested in this issue, or have any opinion you would like to express, please do come along. Our job is to represent Homertonians, and the best way we can do this is to hear directly from you.
Following the meeting, a referendum on the proposed motion will be launched online. You can vote from 9pm at www.vote.cusu.cam.ac.uk and voting will close at 12pm on Saturday. In order to vote, you will have to log in via Raven and select the HUSJCR referendum. The result will be endorsed by the HUSJCR, and we will vote accordingly at the Extra-ordinary CUSU Council.
Hope to see you later!
