Extra-ordinary HUS Open Meeting and Referendum
Written by President
Thursday, 24 November 2011 14:27

EXTRA-ORDINARY HUS OPEN MEETING - TONIGHT 7.30PM

Click here to read the agenda and the motion

REFERENDUM - 9PM TONIGHT UNTIL 12PM SATURDAY

-----------------------------------

Yesterday the HUSJCR issued a statement outlining our reasons for not supporting the interruption of David Willetts’ speech and occupation of Lady Mitchell Hall by members of Cambridge Defends Education (CDE). This stance was voted on by the Executive Committee of the HUSJCR, which put us in line with CUSU’s response to the events.

Since then, students both for and against the actions of CDE have been in touch, and it has been decided that ahead of the Extra-ordinary CUSU Council being held at 3pm on Saturday, it is necessary to accurately gauge the feeling of the HUSJCR membership. As such, we have decided to hold an Extra-ordinary HUS Open Meeting tonight, at 7.30pm in the Griffin. The agenda is attached, including the motion being put forward by the HUSJCR. The motion is proposed by a number of members of the Executive, on the grounds that it was we who voted to support CUSU’s statement on the protest. We hope that turnout at the meeting will be good enough to give each side a fair, democratic platform via which to express their opinion. If you are interested in this issue, or have any opinion you would like to express, please do come along. Our job is to represent Homertonians, and the best way we can do this is to hear directly from you.

Following the meeting, a referendum on the proposed motion will be launched online. You can vote from 9pm at www.vote.cusu.cam.ac.uk and voting will close at 12pm on Saturday. In order to vote, you will have to log in via Raven and select the HUSJCR referendum. The result will be endorsed by the HUSJCR, and we will vote accordingly at the Extra-ordinary CUSU Council.

Hope to see you later!

Boat Club limited edition mugs
Written by Communications
Saturday, 05 November 2011 13:36

A little message from the lovely folks of the Homerton Boat Club:

Homerton College Boat Club is pleased to announce the release of its LIMITED EDITION 'Blades On Fire' mug, design courtesy of our very own Eddie Tindall. For only £6 each or an amazing 2 for £10, it won't cost you the earth to support your college crews. And you never know, they might even make bargain christmas presents! All proceeds go towards the likes of boat maintenance and equipment, the upkeep of which is essential to making sure each crew is as fast as possible in time for next year's Lent and May Bumps competitions. These are key events in the Cambridge sporting calendar and we want to make Homerton proud. Help us reach this goal and buy your mug NOW.

Open Mic Night in the Griffin, November 11
Written by Communications
Wednesday, 02 November 2011 19:41

"An open mic night in the Griffin on November 11 at 7:30 for an 8pm start? That sounds fantastic!"

Thanks, genuinely real person! Yes, you read correctly, we're having our very own Homerton open mic night in the Griffin on Friday 11th November. Entry is free! If you fancy getting up on stage to sing a song, bash out a tune or two, or hit us with some astoundingly hilarious stand-up, please email me at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to let me know you're interested in performing (please state what equipment you'll need too, e.g. 1x instrument mic, or 1x vocal mic and 1x guitar direct input etc.). If you don't email beforehand, come along anyway and we might be able to squeeze you onto the bill.

And if you don't want to perform, come along for an awesome evening of Homerton talent! If you're lucky (unlucky?), I might even get my guitar out for the occasion.

Ents Officer Election
Written by Ben Wheawell
Monday, 24 October 2011 14:44

You may or may not be aware that, at the moment, the HUS is a member short! Traditionally we have two Ents Officers to run things like bops and bar ents, but sadly the lovely Kathy Kennedy has been straddled with the job all on her lonesome. Now is the time to give her a friend.

We are looking for one person to join the HUS as our second Ents Officer, and if you’re interested please don’t hesitate to come and talk to any one of us on the team and we’ll be happy to give you some information and some tips. It doesn’t matter if you’re a freshers or a finalist: if you’re keen to get involved, we’d love to hear from you. You can find a quick FAQ on how to apply by clicking 'Read More'.

Hello all,

Please click here to read the agenda for tonight's (24th October) CUSU Council meeting. You will notice that the agenda is quite short and that the main topic of discussion will be the results of the referendum on the university's contract with Veolia.

If you have not already voted in the referendum and would like to, the link to do so is: https://www.vote.cusu.cam.ac.uk/cusu/11-12/referendumveolia/

The meeting will be held at 19:15pm in the Small Examinations Hall on the New Museums Site, and if any students would like to accompany myself and Ben, the President, to the meeting feel free to email me at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

From now on we will be uploading the CUSU agenda and minutes from previous meetings onto the website as soon as we are sent them. I will also provide a short summary of each.

If there is an issue you would like to raise in CUSU, or have us, the Homerton representatives raise, we are more than happy to help - and if you have any questions about anything in the agenda, minutes or about CUSU itself - please ask me on the above email address.

Happy Monday everyone,

Greg

Vice-President External
